It consists of a series of gentle moves over muscles and tendons on specific areas of the body. The moves activate the body to heal itself and continue to work for 5 to 10 days or even longer.?
Each Bowen move is done at the level of the superficial fascia, affecting the connection between the fascia and the nerve, muscle or tendon being mobilised. Fascia plays a major role in muscle coordination, postural alignment and overall structural and functional integrity.
Bowtech is a ‘complementary’ modality in the sense that it enhances and complements, but does not interfere with, traditional medical attention. Bowtech’s input to the nervous system is very subtle, and the body responds over time. For that reason, it’s best to avoid other manipulative therapies for a week before and after a Bowen treatment so they don’t interfere with the body’s response to Bowen
Before the session
The ideal time for a Bowen session is immediately after an injury. That way, your body can overcome the trauma before it begins to compensate for it. (The compensations often create more problems in the long run than the initial trauma itself.) The sooner you contact a Bowen practitioner the better. Within three days is ideal for the quickest and most complete recovery.
Many people don’t find out about Bowen until weeks, months, or even years of trying other approaches or learning to live with it. For best results from your Bowen treatment, before you attend a session, ensure that you follow the instructions below:
Don’t have any other forms of bodywork for at least 1 week previous. These would include Physiotherapy, Reflexology or Chiropractic work.
Wear or bring light-weight, loose-fitting clothing that your practitioner can work through. Or be prepared to be worked on in your underclothes, under sheets or blankets for modesty and comfort.
